My Biography in 2004

I was born on March 20, 1978, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Mary Anne and Robert T. Balmer. I went to Homestead High School in the Mequon, WI school district, and graduated in June of 1996. I spent the next several years experimenting with college trying to find something that I like. I spent a couple of years in Schenectady, NY at Union College working on various projects for the engineering department.

I started working with 3ds max (a.k.a. 3D Studio Max) around 10 years ago, back when it was still a DOS application. Over the years, I got more serious about its usage. I made attempts at making short movies with it, starting with the classic “spaceship fly-by” and quickly moved onto character animation via Character Studio. The skills I developed with 3ds max were all self-taught, with a little help from some books and tutorials of course.

Along with 3ds max, I have taught myself a number of other applications that I occasionally use alongside Max. Such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Paint Shop Pro, Macromedia Flash, Blender 3D, and The Gimp.

Some of the skills that I’ve picked up over the years I have applied to web page design. I design the site in Photoshop (or sometimes Fireworks) and break it up for use. Initially, I was using Frontpage with a little bit of help from Notepad. But more recently, moved over to Dreamweaver, and now I do all my HTML and CSS entirely in Notepad. I’ve also dabbled with PHP and some ColdFusion to some degree as well. Currently, I am working on teaching myself MySQL and Macromedia Flash.

And finally, I have experience working with a Cyberware Head & Face 3D Scanner and its suite of software.

Outside of computers, I have experience with photography with digital cameras and standard cameras. I use my digital camera for creating texture maps as well as desktop wallpapers.

Currently, I’m working as an intern at Think Innovative Media located in Milwaukee, WI.
